Backgrounds

Where Our Guards Come From

IPM draws exclusively from India's and Nepal's armed forces and security services. Every guard has carried a weapon in service. Every guard has operated under command.

01
Indian Army
Infantry battalions, Artillery, and specialist units. Guards with Army backgrounds bring operational discipline, command structure familiarity, and experience in high-pressure environments including counter-insurgency and anti-terrorist operations.
02
Gorkha Rifles
Nepali Gurkhas — among the most highly regarded soldiers in the world. Selected and trained to exactly the same standards as their Indian counterparts. Available on request and increasingly sought after by vessel operators.
03
Indian Navy
Naval security personnel bring a maritime-specific background that translates directly to vessel operations. Familiarity with shipboard procedures, chain of command at sea, and working alongside civilian crews.
04
Border Security Force
BSF personnel bring extensive experience in sustained operations under difficult conditions, rules of engagement discipline, and working in coordinated teams. A strong secondary source for IPM's guard pool.
Selection

Who Makes the Cut

IPM's recruitment criteria exist to protect our clients. Standards are applied uniformly — availability pressure and scheduling constraints don't move the line.

The baseline requirements are fixed. Beyond them, IPM looks for operational experience, demonstrable professionalism under pressure, and the ability to integrate with a vessel crew without friction.

IPM looks for the ability to de-escalate, the discipline to hold rules of engagement under stress, and the bearing that gives ship masters confidence. The vetting process is built around these.

Minimum 5 Years Regular Service
Indian Army, Navy, Air Force, BSF, or Nepalese Army. No exceptions. Operational experience required.
Honourable Discharge
Exemplary conduct record. Verified directly with issuing authority before any further steps proceed.
Medical Fitness
Full physical and psychological examination, drug and alcohol testing, and colour blindness assessment at a DG Shipping approved medical centre.
English Language
Good standard of verbal English. Assessed at telephone interview stage. Essential for vessel crew integration and emergency communication.
Physical Fitness
Fit, healthy, and within acceptable weight range. Guards must be capable of sustained duty in demanding maritime conditions.
Maximum Age 48 (Freshers)
Up to 50 for candidates with existing maritime security experience. Age limits apply at entry — not during active service.
Inter Protect Marine Guards — Selection. Vetting. Experience. Integrity.

Track Record

The Number That Matters

0
Weapon Incidents in 13+ Years of Operations

Thirteen years. Over 10,000 transits. The record holds because IPM applies the same entry criteria in a slow month that it applies in a busy one. Non-negotiable requirements, continuous weapons handling testing, rigorous Rules of Use of Force training, and a leadership team that holds the line on standards when deployment windows are tight. Discipline built before the vessel leaves port.
